Letter: A step to aid coming together after an election

Posted

Dear editor,

The people of this country have come through a very stressful election campaign that included finger pointing and name-calling from both sides. Friendships were divided.

Sometimes to make a point, signage with profanity visible to children was used to make a point. Fortunately, in the days after the election, I have noticed several Facebook posts regarding the need for kindness from both political sides. I agree 100%. I want to be friends with my neighbors. A difference in political opinion is simply a difference in opinion which everyone has a right to have. My husband, who has coached for years, has instilled in me the value of the lessons learned when you lose and how to win with grace.

In our household, all political signs, win or lose, come down the day after the election.

This letter is to ask my neighbors in Ogle County to take down their Harris/Trump

signs. The election is over. Kindness is important. The first step in the "kindness" movement is to take down your party signs. It is a positive step removing a roadblock that can divide neighbors and neighborhoods. It is important to show grace when you win and when you lose.
