BYRON — Loretta A. Uhlar, peacefully went home to her Lord and Savior on August 15 2024, in Byron, Illinois, at the age of 78. Born on September 23, 1945, in McConnell, IL the daughter of Leroy and Nancy (McQuerry) Stabenow. Loretta lived a life filled with love, faith, and an unwavering commitment to her family. She graduated from Freeport High School. She married the love of her life, John Uhlar on October 3, 1964 and they spent 57 beautiful years together until he preceded her in death on February 1, 2022. For over 26 years, Loretta dedicated herself to the Meridian School District as a custodian at the Junior High. Loretta's culinary skills were legendary among her family and friends, and she was particularly known for her cheesy potatoes and even though she loved cookbooks most of her recipes were in her heart and cannot be recreated. A woman of profound faith, Loretta found solace and strength in her church community at First Baptist Church in Oregon where she stayed active and was the head of the social committee for many years. Her strong belief in the Lord guided her actions and inspired those around her. She embodied selflessness and kindness, always putting the needs of others before her own; living her life as testimony to the Lord. In her spare time, she enjoyed being outdoors; especially at their cabin in Minnesota where she could watch the birds and fish with her family. She loved shopping on QVC and enjoyed crafting and painting. The most important thing in her life was her family and she loved being a devoted wife, doting mother, and involved grandmother. She was someone her family could always count on, and she enjoyed every moment she had with them. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Howard and Delores. She is survived and missed by her children, Jeff (Rhonda) Uhlar of Rainbow City, AL and Luann (Marvin Capps) Chapman of Byron; grandchildren, Ashlee (Ashis) Jana, Chelsee Uhlar, Collin (Karlee) Uhlar, Zachary Chapman, Taylor (Fiancé Ayden Whaley) Chapman, Addison Chapman, Julia Capps, Jodie Capps, Jordan Capps, Madison McGee, and Malachi McGee; great grandchildren, Caroline and Kennedy and one on the way; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday, August 19, 2024 at Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home in Stillman Valley. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at First Baptist Church in Oregon with Pastor David Snow and Pastor Jerry Clark officiating. Grave Side at 2:45 PM at Kishwaukee Cemetary. Memorials are established in her name.
