Mary Lou Spangler, 89, of Byron, went home to be with the Lord, on Friday, June 18, 2021, at St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford.
Mary was born April 28, 1932, in Kalamazoo, Mich., the daughter of Russell and Vera (Eddy) Davidson. The youngest of four children, and the only daughter, she moved to Wisconsin as a toddler, graduating from Beloit High School. Mary was married to Richard R. Patterson Sr. on June 25, 1950, the father of her children. He preceded her in death in April of 2017. She owned Mary's Restaurant in LaMoille from 1977-1984.
In 1987 she married Orlando Spangler. He preceded her in death in 2003. She and Ole delivered meals on wheels regularly and gave tours of the Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home. After his death, Mary continued to do both. Plus she was an officer in the DeKalb district United Methodist Women. Mary was very active in the Franklin Grove Methodist Church and went on many mission trips to Louisiana and Kentucky. She was a sought after speaker for mission.
She is survived by her one son, Richard Patterson, Jr. of Oregon; four daughters, Mary Elizabeth (Paul Philipps) Baldwin of South Beloit, Catherine (Harry) LaBar of Mooresville, N.C,. Constance (Mike) McFarland of Raymond, Maine, LeeAnna (Rick) Roberson of Stillman Valley; 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; one brother, Hugh Davidson of San Jose, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Roger Patterson; two brothers, William Davidson, Vance Davidson; one grandson, Ricky Roberson; one granddaughter, Crystal Patterson; and one sister-in-law, Mabel Hauri.
Cremation Rites have been accorded. A celebration of life was 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Franklin Grove United Methodist Church in Franklin Grove, with Rev. Dave Rogula, pastor, officiating. Burial of cremated remains in the Franklin Grove Cemetery near her beloved grandson, Ricky. There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Franklin Grove United Methodist Church in Franklin Grove.
