Ogle County Sheriff’s Report: Oct. 18-20, 2024

OREGON — On Oct. 18 at approximately 11:55 p.m. deputies initiated a traffic stop in the 2,000 block of North River Road. After further investigation Collins Onyia, 43, of Davenport, Iowa, was placed under arrest for driving while license suspended. Onyia was released on a notice to appear.

On Oct. 18 at 3:07 p.m. deputies responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of North Meridian Road and East Holcomb Road. After an investigation it was determined that a Nissan Versa driven by Joshua T. Parnell, 37, of Chicago was westbound on East Holcomb Road and failed to yield to northbound traffic, after stopping at the stop sign. The Nissan Versa then collided with a northbound Nissan Rogue driven by, Barbara S. Long, 63, of Byron, and a passenger, Tanya L. Cruz, 43, of Stillman Valley. The passenger (Cruz) was transported to Swedish American Hospital with minor injuries. Parnell was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, and transported to the Ogle County Jail, where he was released on a notice to appear with a future court date. Parnell was additionally issued citations for disregarding an official traffic control device, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and illegal transportation of alcoholic liquor by driver in a motor vehicle. Deputies were assisted on scene by Stillman Valley Fire/EMS.

On Oct. 18 at approximately 2:40 p.m. deputies along with the Byron Fire Department responded to a corn field in the 12,000 block of North Kennedy Hill Road for a report that a piece of farm equipment had overturned and the operator was trapped inside the cab.  After conducting an investigation it was learned that Dana Jordan, 27, of Lena, was operating a Case field spreader when the spreader overturned in a washout between two fields.  Jordan was extricated from the Case by Byron Fire Department and transported to Swedish American Hospital in Rockford for suspected minor injuries. 

On Oct. 19 at approximately 1:37 a.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop on a red GMC pickup in the 4,000 block of West Illinois Route 64.  After a brief investigation, deputies arrested Richard B. Shoemaker, 51, of Dixon for an outstanding Lee County warrant for contempt of court. Shoemaker was transported to the Ogle County Jail. 

On Oct. 19 at 11:20 a.m. deputies assisted by Polo Fire Department responded to Illinois Route 52 and Freeport Road for a two-vehicle accident. After a brief investigation it was determined a Peterbilt semi operated by Conner Erbsen, 25, Lanark, was traveling east on Illinois Route 52 when he failed to reduce speed and struck the side of a turning Ford F150, operated by Mark Spong, of Lanark. A passenger in the Ford, Sheila Stone, of Lanark, was transported to CGH Medical Center for injuries. Erbsen was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

On Oct. 19 at approximately 6:52 p.m. deputies, assisted by Byron and Oregon Fire, responded to a one-vehicle accident in the 6,000 block of North River Road. After investigation it was determined a Hyundai SUV driven by Michelle Lorenz, 47, of Byron, was southbound when they swerved to avoid an animal, leaving the roadway and striking a mailbox and culvert, before coming to a stop. Lorenz was transported to Swedish American for minor injuries.

On Oct. 20 at 2:52 p.m. deputies arrested Duane A. Jacobson Jr., 53, of Davis Junction, in the 100 block of Azalea Avenue, on an outstanding Ogle County failure to appear warrant for driving while license is expired. Jacobson was transported to the Ogle County Jail and held in lieu of bond.

All individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty.
