Polo girls basketball team earns win over Ashton-Franklin Center

The Polo High School varsity girls basketball team earned a 53-23 win over Ashton-Franklin Center on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Cam Jones finished with 14 points and 12 assists, while Carlee Grobe scored a team-high 17 points. Laynie Mandrell totaled 12 points and three rebounds for the Marcos, who also saw Leah Tobin grab a team-high eight rebounds.

Oregon girls basketball team takes down West Carroll

The Oregon High School varsity girls basketball team took down West Carroll 52-28 on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Aniyah Sarver led the Hawks with 15 points, while Ella Dannhorn added 10 points and Avery Kitzmiller chipped in eight points.

Polo wrestling team splits meet with Lena-Winslow and Winnebago

The Polo High School varsity wrestling team split a triangular meet with Lena-Winslow and Winnebago on Thursday, Jan. 9. Polo beat Winnebago 44-29 before suffering a 70-8 loss against Lena-Winslow. Match winners against Winnebago were Lucas Nelson (132), Jaidyn McKinney (138), Kaenyn McCarren (150), Liam Setterstrom (157), Micah Stringini (165), Ethan Dewey (175), Shawn Patton (190) and Landyn Burnett (215). Match winners against Lena-Winslow were Lucas Nelson (132) and Kaenyn McCarren (150).

Forreston boys basketball team falls against Pecatonica

The Forreston High School varsity boys basketball team fell 69-57 against Pecatonica on Thursday, Jan. 9. Kendall Erdmann led the Cardinals with 23 points, while Brendan Greenfield added 13 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double.

Polo girls basketball team rolls over Morrison

The Polo High School varsity girls basketball team rolled for a 65-24 win over Morrison on Friday, Jan. 10. Carlee Grobe made eight 3-pointers and scored 27 points with four rebounds, while Cam Jones added a double-double with 16 points, 14 assists and seven steals. Laynie Mandrell totaled nine points and Katelyn Rockwood recorded seven rebounds and five steals.

Ogle County schools grapple at Polo Invitational wrestling tournament

The Oregon High School varsity wrestling team finished first out of 17 schools with 217.5 points during the 2025 Polo Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 11. Polo finished eighth with 89.5 points in the tournament. Individual champions for Oregon included Josiah Perez (113), Boone Alderks (120) and Nelson Benesh (132). Runner-up finishers included Lucas Nelson (132) for Polo and Briggs Sellers (285), Andrew Young (175) and Jackson Messenger (138) for Oregon.

Oregon boys basketball team wins against Morrison

The Oregon High School varsity boys basketball team won 60-47 against Morrison on Saturday, Jan. 11 to move to 10-8 on the season. Oregon’s JV team beat Morrison 60-42. Nole Campos led the Hawks with 17 points, while Cooper Johnson added 15 points and Kade Girton scored nine points for the varsity team.

Forreston boys basketball team tops Milledgeville

The Forreston High School varsity boys basketball team topped Milledgeville 58-41 on Saturday, Jan. 11. Kendall Erdmann and Connor Politsch each scored 13 points, while Brendan Greenfield added 10 points and Mickey Probst took a school-record four charges in the win. The Cardinals are now 11-7 on the season. Forreston’s F/S team won 36-21 to move to 7-5 overall.

Oregon girls basketball team nets win over Dakota

The Oregon High School varsity girls basketball team scored a 45-34 win over Dakota on Monday, Jan. 13. Aniyah Sarved led the Hawks with 16 points, while Ella Dannhorn added nine points and Shaylee Davis totaled six points. Sarah Eckardt chipped in five points.

Polo girls basketball team takes one-point loss from Fulton

The Polo High School varsity girls basketball team fell one point short against Fulton on Tuesday, Jan. 14, conceding a 47-46 loss. Cam Jones finished with 20 points and nine assists, while Avalyn Henry added 11 points, four rebounds and three steals. Katelyn Rockwood totaled seven points and 10 rebounds for the Marcos in the game. Laynie Mandrell had seven points and nine rebounds.

Forreston boys basketball team falls against Fulton

The Forreston High School varsity boys basketball team fell to Fulton 57-49 on Tuesday, Jan. 14. Kendall Erdmann led the Cardinals with 19 points, while Connor Politsch added 13 points and Mickey Probst scored nine points.

Oregon bowling teams take on Dixon

The Oregon Boys and Girls bowling teams traveled to Plum Hollow Family Center in Dixon to take on Dixon. The 13-1 Hawks took on the undefeated Dixon Dukes and came up on the short end of a 3938-3605 NIBC decision. Dixon’s score represented the highest score ever shot against an Oregon team. Dixon had 3 bowlers over 700 series with Wyatt Miller shooting nearly 800 with a 793 series. Oregon was led by Gavvin Surmo with a 716 series (256,231,229) followed by RJ Keene 651 series, Caleb Ehrler 594 series, Caleb Brooks 557 series, Ethan Smice 549 series and Matthew Stahl 538 series.

On the JV side it was a battle of Conference undefeated teams and Oregon came out on top with a 3016-2957 victory to raise their record to 13-1. The JV was led by Wyatt Dunbar with a 576 series, closely followed by Nolan Page with a 568 series.

The Oregon girls bowled with 5 girls and lost to Dixon 2900-2332 to fall to 4-3 on the season. The Lady Hawks were led by Carli Bailey with a 462 series (160,134,168) followed by Savannah Nagy 397 series, Katlyn Miller 393 series, Ahren Howey 363 and Delilia Anaya 351 series.

Oregon bowling teams host Rockford Christian

The Oregon Boys and Girls bowling teams hosted Rockford Christian at Town & Country Lanes, Mt Morris. The Oregon boys recorded their 2nd highest series of the season with a well balanced 3778-2857 victory. The Hawks were led by Gavvin Surmo with a 707 series (257,194,256) followed by Ethan Smice 658 series, Caleb Ehrler 638 series, Caleb Brooks 608 series, Matthew Stahl 605 series and RJ Keene 562 series.

The JV moved to 14-1 on the season and was led by Aiden Currier with a match high 715 series and Ivan Hernandez with a 637 series.

The Oregon girls moved their record to 5-3 with a season-high 2275-1782 victory. The Lady Hawks were led by Katlyn Miller with a 484 series (189,135,160) followed by Ahren Howey 468 series, Carli Bailey 443 series, Savannah Nagy 393 series and Delilia Anaya 354 series. Miller, Howey and Anaya all recorded season high series scores.
