Forreston boys basketball team takes down Durand
The Forreston High School varsity boys basketball team took down Durand 67-54 on Thursday, Jan. 16. Kendall Erdmann led the Cardinals with 32 points, while Connor Polisch added 12 points and Brendan Greenfield totaled 10 points. Forreston’s F/S team won 43-24.

The Polo High School varsity wrestling team competed at a tournament in Kewanee on Saturday, Jan. 18. Lucas Nelson finished first at 138 pounds with a 3-0 record and won the Outstanding Wrestler Award at the lower weights. Jaidyn McKinney went 1-3 over four bouts at 144 pounds, while Micah Stringini went 2-2 over four bouts at 165 pounds. Ethan Dewey went 2-2 over four bouts at 175 pounds.

The Oregon High School varsity boys basketball team faced Indian Creek on Tuesday, Jan. 21 The Hawks defeated the Timberwolves 61-51.
Oregon bowling teams host Dakota on Senior Night
The Oregon boys and girls bowling teams hosted Dakota on Senior Night at Town & Country Lanes, Mt. Morris. The final boys match of the season came down to the very last shot with Dakota pulling out a 1-pin 3,644-3,643 victory. Oregon jumped out to a 98-pin lead after one game, but last year’s 10th place IHSA State finals team chipped away at the lead in each of the remaining two games to claim the win. The Hawks had a balanced night led by Ethan Smice with a 632 series (242,199,191) followed closely by Matthew Stahl 628 series, RJ Keene 627 series, Gavvin Surmo 617 series, Caleb Brooks 596 series, and Caleb Ehrler 543 series. The loss dropped the Hawks to 14-3 on the season.
The JV finished the season with a resounding 3,011-2,312 victory finishing the season 14-1 and undefeated in the NIBC. The JV was led by Aiden Currier 615 series, Wyatt Dunbar 598 series and Nolan Page 571 series. The Oregon girls team also lost a close decision 2,122-2,055 to fall to 5-4 on the season. The Lady Hawks were led by Katlyn Miller with a 521 series (180,177,164) followed by Carli Bailey 458 series, Savannah Nagy 396 and Ahren Howey 361 series.
Oregon boys bowling team takes second in IHSA Regional
The Oregon boys bowling team continued its strong late-season tournament surge with another second place finish to No. 1 ranked Harlem in the Machesney Park Harlem IHSA Regional at Forest Hills Lanes, Loves Park. In a field with three of last season’s IHSA top-10 state finals teams, another top-20 ranked team and yet another honorable mention team, the Hawks continued to more than hold their own. Oregon recorded a 6,249 series and was led by a pair of IHSA Regional medalists; second place finisher Matthew Stahl with a 1,330 series (277,230,173,226,209,215) and fourth place finisher Gavvin Surmo with a 1,298 series (213,247,192,187,212,247).
In yet another complete team effort performance, this duo was followed closely by RJ Keene 1,276 series, Ethan Smice 1,197 series, Aiden Currier 791 series (4 games) and Caleb Brooks 357 series (2 games). With the top four teams advancing from the 13-team field, the Hawks stayed in contention for advance all day long, starting the day in 2nd place after the initial game, dropped to third after the second game, fourth after the fourth game, but then rebounded with their two highest games of the day in the fifth and sixth to take home second place as a team. With the second place finish Oregon advances to the Oregon hosted IHSA Sectional Finals next Saturday at Plum Hollow Family Center, Dixon.
