Oregon Chamber gets new director

OREGON – It’s a good thing Liz Vos is “super organized,” because she is going to need to be.

The new director of the Oregon Chamber of Commerce, Vos has plenty on her plate.

“Right now, I’m focusing on just these first 30 days, frankly,” said Vos, who lives in Oregon and is from the area.

The Chamber job, which is part-time, goes hand in hand with her marketing career, she said.

“It just fits,” she said during a recent interview in the Chamber’s Oregon office. “This is what I do and it’s what I’m passionate about. I’m passionate about spotlighting small businesses especially. Because I realized that there are so many amazing things happening.”

After graduating from Forreston High School, Vos said she moved around some, including living in Texas, Alabama and Missouri. But she found her way back to Oregon five years ago.

“I love it here,” she said.

Vos said she sees her role at the Chamber as a booster of the community.

“Advocate – be the community advocate for the businesses and organizations in the community and surrounding areas,” she said.

And she said she believes there is plenty about Oregon that is attractive. From great employers to a low cost of living to community events, there is never a dull moment.

“There are so many great events … it’s a wonderful place to raise a family,” she said. “The parks district is fantastic.”

Vos said she is working on giving the Chamber a bigger profile on social media, like Facebook. A new website for the Chamber is also being developed. She said one thing she wants to do is match the Chamber’s events calendar with the city of Oregon’s to avoid confusion.

She is also out and about in the community, getting to better know the people and the business owner in town.

“I want to hear from everyone what they need, what we can do better,” she said.
