Serenity Hospice and Home’s 4th Annual Art Dash raises spirits and funds

OREGON — Art, energy, and excitement filled the air on April 9 as Serenity Hospice and Home hosted its fourth annual Art Dash Fundraiser, an unforgettable evening celebrating creativity, community, and compassion.

Held at the generously donated venue of Rivers Edge Experience in Oregon, the event brought together local and out-of-town artists, enthusiastic dashers, and spirited spectators for a night that was as heartwarming as it was entertaining. With more than 90 unique pieces of artwork—ranging from photography and paintings to quilts, woodwork, and more—the event showcased the incredible talent and generosity of artists who donated their work to support Serenity’s mission.

The dash itself was the highlight of the night: registered participants, known as "dashers," were assigned random numbers and called up in groups of four to make their dash around the room and select their favorite piece of art. The suspense and excitement of seeing which artwork each dasher would choose created a fun and electric atmosphere that captivated everyone in attendance.

Some registered as “spectators” and came to cheer on their favorite dashers, admire the artwork, and engage with the artists, many of whom were present to share stories and inspirations behind their creations. It was a beautiful blend of community support, artistic expression, and heartfelt connection.

Guests were treated to a delicious selection of appetizers prepared by chefs Susan and Michael Maddox during the viewing hour. Later in the evening, an intermission featuring desserts from local bakers added a sweet touch before the dashing resumed.

This remarkable event would not be possible without the tireless dedication of co-organizers Karen Virnoche and James Brown, who have led the charge in planning and coordinating the Art Dash for all four years. Their year-round efforts ensure the event remains meaningful, exciting, and impactful, delighting participants while raising crucial funds for Serenity Hospice and Home. “We are delighted that the Art Dash has grown beyond our expectations. It is a great way to support Serenity and promote Art in the community while having a good time,” Karen Virnoche said.

Serenity CEO, Suzanne Ravlin, gives the event high praise, “This is an event like no other. The night is successful in many ways. Not only does the event raise funds that Serenity Hospice and Home uses to provide services to our patients and their loved ones, but it is also an opportunity for art dashers to leave with an incredibly unique piece of art. I am always surprised by what art pieces are selected first and how fast people can run!  We are grateful for Karen Virnoche and James Brown's dedication all year long to make this memorable event possible.”

Serenity, founded in 1984, serves nine counties in Illinois and is a five-star hospice and palliative care organization dedicated to providing comfort and dignity during difficult times for pediatric patients and beyond.

Though final numbers for the 2025 event are still being tallied, organizers expect it to raise approximately $30,000, matching the impressive total from 2024. Proceeds will benefit Serenity’s patient and bereavement care programs across the nine counties they serve, enabling them to continue providing exceptional support to those in need.

Thanks to the artists, volunteers, donors, and everyone who came out to support this incredible cause, Serenity’s Art Dash once again proved that when a community comes together with passion and purpose, amazing things can happen.
