OREGON – Illinois State Superintendent Dr. Tony Sanders visited the Oregon School District, accompanied by Superintendent Dr. PJ Caposey and Assistant Superintendent Mr. Adam Larsen. During his visit, Sanders toured the district’s elementary and high schools, exploring various parts of the schools and learning about the district's history.

"Dr. Sanders' visit was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the hard work and dedication of our students and staff," Caposey said. "We are grateful for his time and interest in learning about our district's achievements and initiatives."

At the elementary school, Dr. Sanders visited a first-grade classroom, where he read “The Duckling Gets a Cookie!” by Mo Willems. He then engaged with a fourth-grade class, answering questions about his role as state superintendent and participating in a New England map quiz, which was part of the class's social studies lesson.

Dr. Sanders continued his visit at the Blackhawk Center, where he reviewed the facilities before moving on to Mrs. Taylor’s English class. There, he observed seniors working on college-level assignments and discussed their academic progress. His next stop was the Welding room, where he viewed the equipment and met with welding teacher Mr. McMillan. Dr. Sanders also visited the classroom of 2022 Illinois Teacher of the Year, Ms. Kim Radostits, where he and Ms. Radostits discussed various aspects of Oregon High School.

The final part of Dr. Sanders’ tour included a visit to the OHS Music room, where he observed students in music lessons and learned about recent updates to the music department, including new seating. The Oregon School District appreciated Dr. Sanders’ visit and looks forward to welcoming him back in the future.
