Swimming & Diving: Byron wins Northern Illinois Independent Invitational

Several athletes take home top honors during meet on Oct. 26

BYRON — The Byron High School varsity girls swimming and diving team took first place with 392 points in the Northern Illinois Independent Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 26.

Addie Bausman (first) and Pheona Warden (second) earned top honors in the varsity diving event, while Audrey Ebersohl (first) led the Lady Tigers at the JV level in diving. Byron’s 200 medley relay team of Abby Krueger, Lucy Gura, Ryan Smith and Bailey Vincer took first with a time of 1:57.94.

Byron’s 200 freestyle relay team of Bailey Vincer, Ady Basler, Nora Schneiker and Lucy Gura took first with a time of 1:45.58. Byron’s 400 freestyle relay team of Nora Schneiker, Bailey Vincer, Madelyn Capellan and Abby Krueger took first with a time of 3:56.22. Lucy Gura won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:12.40 and the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:24.36.

Nora Schneiker placed second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:04.83 and Abby Krueger placed second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 57.13 seconds. Byron’s 400 freestyle relay team of Natalie Kilmer, Cailyn Shippy, Mikayla Ford and Ryan Smith placed second in 4:07.14.

Cailyn Shippy finished third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:11.29 and Madelyn Capellan finished third in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:27.11. Bailey Vincer finished third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.05 seconds and Ryan Smith finished third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:05.19. Abby Krueger finished third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.67.

Madelyn Capellan finished third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:15.34 and Byron’s 200 freestyle relay team finished third with a time of 1:51.66.
