BYRON – Wesley Charles Jeffrey of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Byron, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Saturday, June 22, 2019 following recent health challenges. He was 93 years old.
Wick was born in Galena, the proud son of Louise (Lawyer) and Charles Jeffrey. He was a World War II Veteran of the United States Army who saw combat in the European Theatre, and participated in the Allied Invasion of Normandy, France. He received many decorations including the Bronze Star, and later the French Legion of Honor medal for contributing to the liberation of France.
He spent his career with Illinois Bell Telephone, and later AT&T as a Lineman specializing in maintenance and improvement of the communications network. Upon retirement, he owned and operated with his family, Lake Louise in Byron, for 18 years, retiring to Fort Myers.
He loved fishing, and spent many years on the Gulf of Mexico. He and Pat were avid card players, and enjoyed many nights playing with family and friends.
He is survived by and leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 67 years Patricia Ann (Wheeler) Jeffrey; children, Scott (Connie) Jeffrey, Ronald (Cindy) Jeffrey, Julie (Harry) Tyler; grandchildren, Ryan Jeffrey, Kristen Jeffrey, Greg Tyler, and Susan Tyler-Hayward; great grandchildren, Miles Jeffrey, Julian Tyler, and Ryan Russell; sisters, Charlene Hansel and Barbara Parkinson.
