SPRINGFIELD — The Oregon High School varsity wrestling team placed fifth out of 60 schools in the 2024 Abe’s Rumble dual tournament in Springfield from Dec. 27-28. Oregon started the pool round with a 55-20 win over Seneca and an 83-0 shutout against Robinson. The Hawks concluded the pool round with a 66-11 win over Deer Creek-Mackinaw and a 58-18 win over Sherrard.
Oregon advanced into the championship bracket, where the Hawks beat Benton 42-33 before topping Olympia 44-33 to move into the quarterfinals. Despite a 61-12 loss against Coal City, Oregon finished the tournament in fifth place after a 46-31 win over LeRoy and a 34-31 win against Murphysboro. The Hawks went 8-1 over nine dual matches in the tournament.
