Plenty to do at the Candlelight Walk

OREGON – The Oregon Park District is combining forces with Candlelight Walk on Saturday, Nov. 25.

Nash Recreation Center will be open normal Saturday hours (7 a.m.-4 p.m.), and then move downtown for more holiday fun. 

Gingerbread house decorating will be held at the Freedom Lutheran Welcome Center, 111 S. 4th Street, Oregon. Registration is $15 per house and includes a pre-assembled gingerbread house, frosting, candy plus a full candy bar with extra frosting to make your house extra special. Houses can be worked on by more than one family member and space will be available for the whole family to join in on the fun.

Time slots available on Saturday Nov. 25 are 4-4:30 p.m.; 5-5:30 p.m.; or 6-6:30 p.m. You will have 30 minutes to decorate your house and then be on your way to enjoy everything Candlelight Walk has to offer.

Boxes will be provided to transport your house or houses can be held at the Freedom Lutheran Building until 7 p.m. that evening if you’d like to explore downtown.

Pre-register to guarantee your house. Registration is available at Nash Recreation Center or by phone, 815-732-3101. Limited number of walk-up spots may be available that evening if registration doesn’t fill.

If it's holiday shopping you are looking for, don't miss the one-stop shopping experience at the Oregon Coliseum. 

The Holiday Gift Fair located inside the Coliseum offers something for everyone. From hand-made soaps, sweets and treats, unique hand-made gifts, jewelry, and more will available for purchase that evening.  The Park District staff coordinate the Gift Fair as well as the Children's Winter Quarter Carnival located in the lower level of the Coliseum.  Win prizes at the Winter Carnival while visiting Santa downstairs. Games are 25 cents each and offer fun for the youngsters,

If holiday decorations are your thing, be sure to stop on Candy Cane Lane, located on Franklin Street between the Coliseum and Conover, at the Park District Holiday Greens tent. 

Tyler Hagemann, Park District Horticulturist, has been busy making beautiful fresh fragrant swags, hanging baskets and pine filled pots.  The Holiday Green Sales benefit the Oregon Park District Youth Scholarship Fund.

A limited number of greens will be available for sale on Nov. 25 along Candy Cane Lane.  Come early and purchase your favorites.  We will hold them until 7:45 p.m. so that you can enjoy all the festivities downtown without having to carry your greens around or make a special trip to the car. Prices for the arrangements range in price from $10-$25.  Cash or check only please.
