OREGON – Joyce Moreen Ryan, age 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at her residence near Oregon. She was born March 3, 1925 in London, England the daughter of Robert James and Sarah (Tetchner) Alexander.
She graduated from Wanstead High School in London, England. Joyce served in the Women’s Royal Naval Service during WWII from 1944-1946. She married Vernon Ryan on April 5, 1947 in London, England. He preceded her in death on Mar. 5, 1993. Together along with their daughter Susan immigrated to the United States in October of 1957. Joyce was currently a member of the Chana United Methodist Church and formerly a charter member of the Faith Community Reformed Church in West Chicago prior to moving to Oregon. Joyce served others by undergoing hospice training and reading for the blind  at Delnor Hospital Auxiliary though NIU. She loved music and played the piano for most of her life. She also liked to garden.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband Vernon, and sister Hilda Burland.
She is survived by her daughter Susan (Robbie) Robbins of Oregon, 2 grandchildren Jenny Robbins-Keating, and Dane (Lynn) Robbins, 4 great grandchildren; Dillon Keating, Gavin Keating, Nathan Robbins, and Jake Robbins, niece Sandra Haines (Clive Davies), nephew Phillip (Cathy) Ryan, and cousin Audrey (Norman) Kilbury.
Funeral Service was at 11 a.m., Friday, June 30, 2017 at the Chana United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chan Choi pastor of the church officiating. Burial of cremated remains will take place at a later date at the River Hills memorial Park in Batavia. A visitation was from 5-7 p.m., Thursday evening at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 S. 7thStreet in Oregon. A memorial fund is established for the Serenity Hospice and Home or the Chana United Methodist Church.
