DAVIS JUNCTION – Melvin L. Casey, 80, of Davis Junction, died Friday Dec. 8, 2017 in his home, surrounded by his family. He was born Feb. 12, 1937 in Fayette County, Ill., the son of Wauna and Margie (Worker) Casey.

He married Marjorie R. Boas in Nashville, Tenn. on Feb. 25, 1969. Melvin was an Air Force Reservist of 33 1/3 years, attaining the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He farmed in Ogle County, was a member of the Farm Bureau for over 50 years, and served on the Davis Junction Zoning board for over 10 years. Melvin was also a 50+ year member of the Meridian Sun Masonic Lodge #505 A.F & A.M. He was an uncle to many and enjoyed that role very much.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; daughter, Monica (David Shoemaker) Casey-Shoemaker of Milwaukee, Wis.; sister-in-law, Pat Casey of Rochelle; brother-in-law, Dean (Joannie) Herrmann of Rochelle; and many nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Evelyn Casey, Larry Casey, and Janet Casey Herrmann.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 136 W. Roosevelt Rd., Stillman Valley with Father Howard Barch officiating. Burial, with Air Force Military Honors, was in Lawnridge Cemetery, Rochelle. Visitation was in the funeral home Monday beginning at 4 p.m. and concluded with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Diabetes Foundation or the Disabled American Veterans.
