OREGON – Penny Ann McIntire of Oregon, passed away unexpectedly in her home on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018 at the age of 66.

Penny was born on Aug. 27, 1952 in Dixon, to Carroll “Jiggs” and Ethel McIntire. She grew up as an only child and attended Dixon High School. She received a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree from Northern Illinois University, where she also worked as a Computer Science instructor and undergraduate advisor for over 30 years before her retirement in 2015. She married William Kendall on Aug. 18, 1974 and had two daughters, Shelley Kendall and Abigail (Kendall) O’Connell, in 1980 and 1981 respectively.

Penny was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend and someone who was always willing to lend a helping hand. She was a woman of many talents – a computer programmer, educator, gardener, genealogist, author, and artist. She also enjoyed traveling, sewing, crocheting, remodeling, and most importantly spoiling her granddaughters rotten and spending time with family and friends. She was a loving and selfless woman who touched the hearts of many and she will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.

Penny was preceded in death by her parents and her cousins Pat and Vicki Strum.

She was survived by her daughters; former husband; granddaughters Katherine and Nora O’Connell; son-in-law Kevin O’Connell; cousins Mike and Carol Strum and their children Alex and Emiline; cousins Oscar and Teresa Strum and their children Skyla and Steven, daughter-in-law Gwen, and granddaughter Adalynd; and cousin Terry Boken and his son Andrew.

A gathering of family and friends was held at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 1121 N. Galena Ave, Dixon, IL on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2018 from 9-11 a.m., with a memorial service at 11 a.m. and a private burial following the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Penny’s name.
