Here comes the Ogle County Fair

OREGON – Funnel cakes, ferris wheels and the county fair are summer staples across the country. The Ogle County Fair will Wednesday, July 31 through Sunday, Aug. 4 at the Ogle County Fairgrounds in Oregon. 

The Ogle County Fair is an event where the whole family can have fun at affordable prices. We offer free on grounds shows and carnival rides with gate admission. Live music in the evening at the pavilion. We have Grandstand events every night during the fair.

We have a large variety of food vendors. There will be vendors showcasing different items for sale in our exhibit tent and all around the fair grounds.  

Ogle County 4-H members will participate in livestock shows and 4-H Club members will also have creative projects on display from cooking and photography to welding and woodworking in the exhibit building.

We will be crowning the new fair queen Wednesday afternoon. The fair queen pageant will be held beginning at 5:30 p.m. on the Fairgrounds. 

Pre-tickets are for sale online, but will increase on the first day of the fair! 

Entertainment

Free Pavilion music events (Lions Shelter) will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday featuring talented local musicians. The music events will be offered from 7:30-10 p.m. each night.

On Thursday, Aug. 2 we have Airloom Music Studio of Mount Morris featuring Mary Ley.

Friday night, Aug. 3 we have the “First Friday” local talented musicians.

Saturday night, Aug. 4 we have John Lindhorst and the Rock River Strummers from the Ukulele Station.

This entertainment will focus on all local talent. And hopefully people will get inspired to join some group and make it their hobby too.

Carnival

Times for the carnival are:

July 31, 6-10 p.m.

Aug. 1, 5-10 p.m.

Aug. 2, 3-10 p.m.

Aug. 3, noon-10 p.m.

Aug. 4, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Grandstand

July 31 – Antique tractor parade, 5 p.m., free.

Riverbend antique tractor pull, 6 p.m., $10

Truck and tractor pull – stock, 6:30 p.m.

Aug. 1 – Truck and tractor pull – Illini, 6:30 p.m., $10

Aug. 2 – Big Hat Rodeo, 7 p.m., $10

Aug. 3 – Demolition derby, 6:30 p.m., $10

Fair baskets

The Ogle County Fair Queen committee is once again offering a beautiful hand-crafted basket for sale. 

The basket is hand made by Judy Hodgin of Apple River. This is the fourth year of offering her beautiful baskets.

This year’s basket is and oval shape, measuring 5 inches wide and 7 ½ inches long and stands 7 ½ inches. It also features a fold down handle. The basket has blue and wine colored reed accents and accent petals. Each basket is stained in a medium walnut.

The cost of the basket is $40. Each basket comes with a commemorative tag made by Buffalo Run Enterprises of Lamoille, Ill. Each one is signed by Judy and is numbered. 

All profits from the basket sales go to the Ogle County Fair Queen 2019, to help with costs at the state queen pageant January 2020. Contact Sharon Alderks at 815-645-1015 to purchase a basket or with any questions.

Volunteers

The Ogle County Fair Association is in need of volunteers to assist with some activities at the fair.

If you know (doesn’t have to be a 4-H family member) someone who would be interested in giving a few hours of their time The Ogle County Fair Association could use your help.

The 2019 Ogle County Fair will be held July 31-Aug. 4 at the Ogle County Fair Grounds located just west of Oregon. Volunteers 18 and up are needed to sell tickets at the gate. Volunteers will work 3 hour shifts or whatever you are available to do.

To volunteer call Roseanne at 815-440-3601 or the Fair office at 815-732-6962. There is also a need for help with parking. Volunteers must be ages 15 and older. Volunteer work schedules can be adjusted to fit the volunteers schedule. Call Jon at 815-978-2264.
