OREGON — Russell L. Martin, age 77, passed away Tuesday March 12, 2024 with his family by his side. Russ was born February 19,1947 the son of Robert and Pauline (Voss) Martin. He attended Oregon Community High School graduating in 1965. After high school Russ joined the Army and served from 1966-1968. When he returned home he married Judy Mumford, on September 14, 1968. Russ worked on the family farm and then became a semi truck driver taking him all over the country. Russ loved to talk to the people who he met on his travels. He never met a stranger, always wanting to know everyone's life story. Even after his trucking years were over he would go and sit at Petro to talk to the truckers as they went in and out. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family, he was a devoted grandfather who was loved very much.
Russ is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy, daughter Amy (Rick) Eldred of Kings, IL and grandaughters Sofie Sodergren and Hannah Eldred. Brothers Bill Martin, Glenn (Toni Hughes) Martin, Wes (Tammy) Martin, and Jerry (Donna) Martin, and one sister Judy Hollenbeck all of Oregon, IL and many nieces and nephews.
Russ was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Richard Martin and Emmitt Martin and two sisters Ruby Schier and Barbara Kirchner.
Russ did not wish to have any services in his remembrance.
