WINNEBAGO – Norman “Norm” K. Benters, 78, of Winnebago, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2018 at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Born Sept. 24, 1939 in Sterling, the son of Warren E. and Virginia Mahlkuch (Pratt) Benters.
Norm married Colleen Kay Sturtevant on Feb. 29, 1964 in Loran, IL. A veteran of the United States Navy. He worked at Eighmy Equipment in Rockford as a heavy equipment mechanic. He was a big fan of NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt, NHRA Pro Stock driver Bob Glidden and was a Ford guy. Norm most enjoyed time with his family and family picnics. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Donald Lorraine Tarbert Post 8416 in Pecatonica and a Gift of Hope donor.
Norm is lovingly survived by his wife, Colleen Benters of Winnebago; son, Kirk (Susan) Benters of Pecatonica; daughter, Tracy Nason of Byron; grandchildren, Joshua (Marissa Marsh) Benters, Justin Nason, Drew Benters, Cassandra Nason; great-grandson, Jaxon Benters; sisters-in-law, Arlene Benters, Shirley Oppold; son-in-law, Scot Nason; several nephews and nieces; best buddy’s Gary Viel and Terry Mohn.
Norm is predeceased by his parents; brother, Edward Benters; brother-in-law, John Oppold.
