MOUNT MORRIS – The Mount Morris Jamboree announces the return of Chicago blues veteran Dave Weld and his band, The Imperial Flames to our stage on July 19, starting at 7 p.m.
Weld, born in Chicago, was first influenced as a child when he found an old Victrola in the basement and wore out the blues 78's. He moved to New Mexico, and studied guitar under Kurt Black, a jazz player who worked with Benny Carter in New York. Weld was drawn back to Chicago after hearing Howlin’ Wolf on the radio and found that he was welcome on the West side of Chicago (black hood).
He played with Otis Rush, Maxwell St. Jimmy, Guitar Junior, Jew Town Burks, Boston Blackie, Tail Dragger, Little Wolf and more.
In 1988, Weld decided to start his own band "Dave Weld and the Imperial Flames." This band featured the most authentic seasoned blues veterans in Chicago. They toured countless times around the world, local and national festivals and the best venues in the Midwest and the national.
Concessions for the evening will be served by the Mount Morris Public Library who will feature Italian Sausages, hot dogs and apple dumplings. Come enjoy the meal, music and fellowship starting at 6 p.m.
The Fine Art Show at the Encore Art Gallery continues next door on the first floor of Old Sandstone featuring nearly 50 pieces in a variety of mediums from many local Artists on the theme 'The Road Not Taken', open from 6-9:30 p.m.
Be sure to come uptown early to visit the Mount Morris Community Farmers Market, open from 4-7 p.m. every Friday through October, located at the corner of Rt. 64 and Wesley Avenue. Please bring a blanket or chair, or enjoy the new benches and join the fun on our beautiful, historic campus in the center of Mount Morris, two blocks south of Rt. 64 on Wesley Avenue and enjoy the free Chicago Blues concert.
In the event of rain, the whole show moves to the Moose Lodge at 101 Moose Drive, at the same times.
