FORRESTON – On Tuesday, Jan. 7, students and staff at Forreston Junior Senior High School recognized Principal Travis Heinz for his award of excellence provided by the Illinois Principal Association, Northwest Region.
This surprise announcement was made by Superintendent Smith during an all student assembly.
This distinguished award recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of school leaders within the area region who have succeeded in providing high quality learning opportunities for students. The principals receiving this recognition have made exemplary contributions to the profession and are acknowledged by their peers.
Heinz was nominated for this particular award by staff members at FJSHS.
In one nomination staff stated the following, “To describe Mr. Travis Heinz in a few words is a difficult task, but one that can be achieved around four main words: loyal, passionate, dedicated, and family.”
A second nomination described Mr. Heinz as understanding, “It seems like he always has the wisdom and familiarity to help people around him when they need it the most.”
The award celebration included congratulations from Superintendent Sheri Smith, members of the Board of Education, building administrators, teachers, students and family members.
“I am incredibly proud of the work of Mr. Heinz at FJSHS,” Smith said. “This distinguished award demonstrates his commitment to the students and staff in our district and his excellent work each and every day.”
Heinz responded to the surprise announcement by saying: “I am very honored to receive this award and even more honored to share it with all of my Cardinal Family as this is a direct reflection on the great staff, students, and community that I am grateful to be with each and every day.”
Heinz will advance for consideration for the Illinois JH Principal of the Year, which will be announced at a later date. The Northwest Region Principal’s Association will present Heinz with a certificate at an upcoming Board of Education meeting later this spring.
