Summer Day Camps set at Lorado Taft

Posted

This summer, Lorado Taft will be offering five summer camp sessions.

Three sessions are for children ages 7-12 and occur June 14-18, July 6-9, and Aug. 9-13. The June session is a Sports-themed Camp. Campers will learn the fun basics of a variety of team sports and incorporate other fun games like capture the flag, four square, nature yoga, dance and more.

The July session is a four-day Nature Journaling Camp. This camp fee is $95 because of the shortened schedule. Campers will learn how to observe, record and journal about nature.

The August session is a board game theme. Campers will be able to act out live versions of their favorite board games like Risk, Candyland and more.

Camps will start at 8:30 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. except for Friday, when they will end at 2 p.m. Tentatively (depending on Covid-19 guidelines in place at that time) families are invited to lunch and a presentation on Friday of each camp, during which the campers will show what they have been working on during their week at the camp. There is an additional fee for family members attending the Friday lunch and participants may be limited due to Covid-19 restrictions.

The fee for the five-day June and August camps is $115 for the first child and $90 for any subsequent children in the family. The fee for the four-day July camp is $95 for the first child and $75 for any subsequent children in the family. Early drop off and late pick up will be available for an additional fee.

The littles session for children ages 5-6 will be held June 28- July 2. This is the bird camp where campers will learn about birds, migration, and how to help birds in a hands-on way. The camp will start at noon and end at 4:30 p.m. Lunch and a snack will be provided. The fee for this camp will be $75 a child.

This year we are adding a session for older campers, aged 13-17, who are interested in being a junior counselor. They will attend a morning session to learn how to teach a game or do a craft and then will help the Lorado Taft staff in the afternoon with the little’s camp June 28- July 2. Camp will start at 8:30 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. The fee for this camp is $115 for the first child and $90 for any subsequent children in the family. Early drop off and late pick up will be available for an additional fee.

The safety of our campers and their families, as well as our staff, is extremely important. IDPH guidelines for camps, as well as NIU Protecting the Pack guidelines, will be followed. For more information or to register, contact Alyssa Parker at 815-732-2111, Ext. 125 or at aparker4@niu.edu. Registration forms are also available on the NIU Lorado Taft Campus website at www.niu.edu/taft.
