It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Anthony James “Tony” Gross on June 15, 2021, in his home surrounded by family. Tony was born in Chicago on May 1, 1957, and lived in Oregon and Rockford before settling in Chapel Hill, N.C., 8 years ago. He was the son of the late James E. and Eva (Schroeder) Gross.
Survived by his daughter (his world) Amanda May (Billy) Hildebrant of Port Byron, Ill.; grandson Kyler Joe-Anthony and granddaughter Alayna Cynthia-Mae along with his sisters, Annette (Claude) LeFrapper of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Mary (Gary) Duffy of Hanover Park, Ill.; brother James (Nancy) Gross of Mt. Morris; along with several nieces; nephews and extended family.
He worked as an auto mechanic for years, always willing to help someone out. He had a heart of gold and a smile that could light up a room. His hobbies included fishing and feeding wildlife.
The family will have a private ceremony at a later date. In lieu of flowers, request memorials in his name To UNC Hospital (Chapel Hill, N.C.) or American Lung Association.
