BYRON – Carol Marie Kuczek, 61, of Byron, died Oct. 26, 2021 at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon. She was born Feb. 12, 1960 in Mankato, Minn., the daughter of James Floyd and Shirley Louise (Nelson) Mans. She graduated from Nicollet Public School in Nicollet, Minn., in 1978, received a health unit coordinator certificate from Mankato Area Vocational Technical Institute in 1979 and graduated with an associate degree in nursing from Rochester Community College in Rochester, Minn., in 1983. Carol married Gregory John Kuczek on Oct. 14, 1989 at Church of St. Paul in Nicollet.
Carol worked in nursing 34 years primarily in critical care at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield, Wis., UW Health Hospital in Madison, Wis., Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, Calif., Rockford Memorial and Swedish American Hospital in Rockford. She is a member of Crossroads Community Church Winnebago Campus and the AACN American Association of Critical Care Nurses. She enjoyed being a co-leader for the Girl Scouts, family camping trips to Wisconsin State Parks and visiting family in Minnesota.
Carol is survived by her husband Greg Kuczek of Byron; daughters Laura (Stephen) Tenney of Overland Park, Kan., and Sarah Kuczek of Duluth, Ga.; mother Shirley (Jerry) Mathiowetz of Morgan, Minn.; brothers Lyle (Pattie) Mans of North Mankato, Minn., and Jon (Beth) Mans of Traverse, Minn.; step-brother Greg (Lisa) Mathiowetz of Cody, Wyo., and several nephews and nieces.
Carol is predeceased by her father, James Mans.
A visitation was held from 5-8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 5, 2021 at Crossroads Community Church Winnebago Campus, 600 Highland Drive, Winnebago. A funeral ceremony was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021 at Crossroads Community Church Winnebago Campus with Pastor Richard Sparling officiating with a visitation held from 10 a.m. until time of service. Cremation Rites to be Accorded.
In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established for Crossroads Community Church Winnebago Campus and Serenity Hospice and Home, 1658 S. Illinois Route 2, Oregon, IL 61061.
