MOUNT MORRIS – Trinity Lutheran Church in Mt. Morris is hosting a free concert for the greater Mt. Morris community on Aug. 14.

Popular local blue grass band, Grass Attack, will perform 7-9 pm at the Warren Reckmeyer bandshell on the campus in Mt. Morris. Food will be available 6-7:30 p.m. from the Ogle County Pork Producers who will sell pork sandwiches with chips and a drink for $6, and Trinity Lutheran Church which will offer a free ice cream social.

Grass Attack features four musicians and tight harmonies playing a range of styles from bluegrass and country to newgrass. The band regularly performs at small town festivals, bluegrass festivals and county fairs in Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin.

This evening of fun, food and entertainment is offered by Trinity Lutheran Church in celebration of its 175th anniversary. Trinity has served and worshipped in the Mt. Morris area since 1846. “Trinity has been part of Mt Morris since our very first days, our histories are intertwined,” said Pastor Josh Ehrler. “It made sense to us that, if we’re going to celebrate how far we’ve come as a congregation, we invite the entire community to the party.”

Trinity is hosting this community event in cooperation with the Encore Mt. Morris “U.S. National Straw Sculpting Competition.” The public can enjoy the food and music while viewing and voting on the straw sculptures. The Sandstone Art Gallery on the campus next to the straw sculptures will also be open to the public.

The mission of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mt. Morris is, “Believing in Christ, we are called to grow and sent to serve.” It is lived through local and global service projects that run the gamut from creating health kits and quilts for world relief programs to providing free pajamas to area families at Christmas. Other ministries include the Summer Lunch Program, which provides free summer lunches as well as gardening, literacy, and learning options, and Strong Girls 2 Women (#SG2W), a program for preteen girls that teaches self-respect and empowerment (#iamenough). Worship services are available on their website, YouTube channel and FaceBook page, or in-person on alternating Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings. The worship service schedule is at www.trinitymmil.net. Weekly podcasts from Pastor Josh Ehrler are on buzzsprout.com and iTunes.
