LEAF RIVER – David L. Cook, age 69, passed away at home on Aug. 30, 2021. He was born in Rochelle on June 8, 1952 the son of Frederick and Dorothy (Rowe) Cook. He graduated from Leaf River High School Class of 1970.

Music was David’s life and he was a gifted guitar player and singer who played in many different bands starting in high school. When he wasn’t playing with a band, he could be found helping them with lighting and soundboards. In his spare time; he liked to wind down by watching sports especially wrestling, football, and basketball.

He is survived by his daughter, Carrie Groom of Leaf River; sisters, Suzanne Lewis of Leaf River, Rebecca (Hamilton) Bonvillian of Arlington, Texas, and Tracy Rodenberg or Lansing, Ill.; grandsons, Jake Groom, Ethan Groom, and Sam Groom; nieces and nephews, Jami Hackman, Todd Lewis, Scott (Shanille) Untz, Nicole (Craig) McCollum, Tyler (Rashida) Rodenberg, and Sara Bonvillian; and many great nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, Sept. 17, 2021 at 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Byron with Father Rich Rodinski officiating. A celebration of David’s life will be held will be held on Friday, Sept. 17, 2021 from 3-9 p.m. at the River Valley Complex in Leaf River. The public is welcome to join the family at either or both events.  If you are a former band mate or musician friend of David’s please feel free to bring your instruments to play in his honor.
