David W. McKinley, 74, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020 at Generations Nursing Home, Byron. David was born July 11, 1946 to Howard and Esther McKinley.
A graduate from Leaf River School in 1964. David worked at Chrysler for 35 years retiring in 1999. After retiring, he worked part time at Cacciatore’s and Country Market. David enjoyed fishing and was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the Chicago Bears and Cubs. While in high school, David set many records in track. Later, his sons broke some of those records which made him very proud. He also enjoyed refereeing high school basketball and playing on local baseball teams. David was a member of the Mt. Morris Moose Club.
Survivors include wife, Karen; sons, Dennis of Israel, Jeffrey of Rockford; daughter, Lisa (Mike) Mund of Winnebago; grandchildren, Hunter and Nolan McKinley, Eli McKinley, Logan Alyssa Mund; sister, Connie (Dick) Kretsinger; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; step-father, Louis Munk; sister, Sandra; and brother, Terry.
