MOUNT MORRIS – Eleanor Benhart, age 91, of Mt. Morris, formerly of Roselle, passed away Monday, June 28, 2021, at her daughter’s home in South Elgin, with her loving family by her side.
She was born Dec. 5, 1929, in Chicago, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Herger) Steigerwald.
As a young woman, Eleanor was invited to join the Women’s Minor League Baseball Team, but instead chose to get married to the love of her life, Leonard, on July 29, 1950. Together they raised their family in Roselle and enjoyed camping, dancing, family gatherings and the backyard pool. They moved to Spooner, Wisconsin in 1973, and then to Mt. Morris in 1991. In her leisure time, she loved to draw and paint, tend to her flowers and do crafts with her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her children Pam Radzun of South Elgin, Donna Benhart of Mt. Morris, Scott Benhart of Leaf River, and Leslie (Monte Schwarm) of Farina; grandchildren Nicole (Mike) Spilotro, Darren (Marilyn) Mensching, Jarrod (Keegan) Mensching, Mark (Ashley) Benhart, Eric Benhart, Rhiannon (Warren) Thomas, Shane (Danielle) McDowell, Caitlin (Aaron Jennings) McDowell; great grandchildren Justin, Kristin, Gina, Ashley, Daylan, Connor, Parker, Ella, Maverick, Rainey, and Levi; dear Greg, and many other friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Wally, Rudy, Martha, Frieda, Roy, grandson Garret Mensching, son-in-law Bill Radzun, and her devoted husband Leonard who passed away in 2019.
A visitation for Eleanor was held Tuesday, July 6, 2021 from 4 p.m. until the time of her funeral service at 7:30 pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva with Pastor Michael Hoffman officiating.
Burial will be held privately.
