OREGON – Elma A. “Sis” Braden, 86, lifelong Oregon resident, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2021 in her home. Born Dec. 16, 1935 in Mt. Morris, the daughter of Glen D. and Bessie (Paul) Smice.
She was a 1953 graduate of Oregon High School. Married to Stanley Braden Sept/ 19, 1953 in Oregon; he died April 26, 2003. Sis was a 21 year “military wife” and with Stan belonged to the Oregon VFW. She owned and operated “Sis’s Place” in Oregon for many years and coached girls softball for the Oregon Park District. Sis was also a past member of the Oregon City Council and enjoyed playing hand-held games.
Survived by her sons, Raymond (Sue) Braden of Oregon and Ryan (Jayne) Braden of Kirkland; daughter, Dina Blades of Oregon; grandchildren: Paige (Nathan) Hanley, Stephen Braden, Garrett Braden, Brooke Braden and Heather Braden; and great grandchildren: Damian Blades, LaNiya Blades, Brayden Hanley, Charlotte Hanley and Catherine Hanley.
Also predeceased her parents; grandchildren, Justin Blades and Jessica Blades; and brothers, Glen Smice and Robert Smice.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31 in Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon preceded by a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Rev. Joseph Naill of St. Mary Catholic Church, Oregon officiated. Burial in Daysville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Sis’s name may be made to Serenity Hospice & Home, Oregon.
