Ethel moved to Northern Illinois in 1958, living with her close friend and cousin Wilma. They both came north for better job opportunities, and by the sounds of her and Wilma's stories, to also have fun adventures. Through the brother of Wilma's future husband Ed Ramsey, Ethel met Bobbie, the love of her life. They soon married, having a double ceremony with Wilma (Bates) and Bill Ramsey, during a tornado, just another one of the many adventures. Ethel and Wilma remained close to her final day.
