OREGON – Joan A. Grooms, 86, longtime Oregon resident, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2021 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford. Born March 8, 1935 in Wallasey, England, the daughter of Robert and Isabel Delap.
Married to Leon Grooms October 26, 1962 in Oregon. Joan was employed at Borg Warner in Dixon for several years prior to retiring. She enjoyed taking care of her yard, golf carting, gardening and the outdoors in general.
Survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Leon; sons, Tony (Julie) Mora of Rockford and Frank Mora of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter, Cheryl Bennet of DeKalb; grandchildren: Audrey (Alex) Young, Blake (Paul) Lentini, Andrew Bennet and Megan (Tyler) Axtell; great grandchildren: Aemilia, Charlotte, Anthony, Benjamin, Matthew, Wyatt and Wylie; brother Kenneth Delap and sisters, Doreen Perkins and Sheila Murphey, all of England; and many, many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Michael Mora; and brothers, Bob and Les Delap. Cremation rites to be accorded.
No services are scheduled at this time with a Celebration of Life to be held in the spring. Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon assisted the family.
