BYRON – John J. Kultgen, 85, of Byron, died Monday, July 5, 2021 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford. Born Nov. 22, 1935 in Fredonia, Wis., the son of Leo and Ann (Weyker) Kultgen.

John was a graduate of Port Washington (Wis.) High School and a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. Married to Pamela Branson Sept. 25, 1993 in Chana. John farmed in Chana and was employed in industrial concrete construction in the Chana and Rochelle areas for 20 years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Byron. John was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and was very involved with his family and grandchildren’s activities. He enjoyed travel, the outdoors and golfing.

Survived by his wife, Pam Kultgen of Byron; sons, John (Jan) Kultgen II and Jason (Gina) Kultgen, both of Byron; step-daughters, Tammy (Chuck) Fox of Madison, Wis., and Barb (Joe) Schroeder of Bourbonnais; grandchildren: Olivia, Allison, Rachel, Grace, Ava, Lucy, Adam, Megan, Rob, Andy and Kristen; 3 great grandchildren; brothers, Henry (Judy) Kultgen of Fredonia, Wis., and Paul (Bev) Kultgen of Random Lake, Wis.; and sister, Mary Schrommer of Fredonia, Wis.

Predeceased by his parents and brothers, Alfred Kultgen and Leander Kultgen.

A Funeral Mass was held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 9 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Byron with Rev. Richard Rosinski as celebrant. Visitation will be 3:30 -6:30 p.m. Friday in the church. Burial in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Fredonia, Wis., will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 12. Memorials in John’s name may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Mary Catholic Church, Byron. Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Byron assisted the family with arrangements.
