John Lewis Burns

MOUNT MORRIS – John Lewis Burns, age 85, passed away on Oct. 19, 2021 in Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home, Mt. Morris. John was born on Sept.27, 1936 in Cypress, Ill.; the son of John Lester and Mildred (Huckleberry) Burns. 

John graduated from high school and he received his Education Degree from Eastern Illinois University. John married Marilyn Yvonne Hamby on Nov. 23, 1958. He was a teacher and he was an international service manager for Woods Equipment, Oregon, and he worked for Spectrum Meats as the water quality control, Oregon. John served in the U.S. Navy from January 1955 through January 1957.

John was a 23 degree Mason and he rode in the Tebala Shrine Honda Patrol, avid hunter and fisherman, he loved to fly, and race cars.

John is survived by his wife: Marilyn Burns; children: Cherie Renee Goodemann, Teresa Colleen Burns, and Connie Sue Burns; grandchildren: Renee Yvonne Peterson, Travis John Burns, and Ryan Austin Burns; great grandchildren: Evan Roger Peterson, Austin Alexander Peterson, and Willow Renee Burns; and sister: Ramona Davis.

John is preceded in death by his parents; and sister: Connie Lee Burns.

Celebration of life was held on Oct. 30, 2021 at 11 a.m. at 578 North Columbian Road, Mt. Morris.

John loved the Lord and everything the Lord gave and he was ready to go home to the Lord.
