LEAF RIVER – Kathy L. Cummins, age 71, passed away on Tuesday June 9, 2020. She was born in Rockford on Nov.26, 1948 the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Benthien.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Education degree from Illinois State University. She married Robert E. Cummins, Jr. on Feb. 15, 1969. Kathy worked as a speech pathologist for the Pecatonica School District. She was a member of North Grove Christian Church. She was a very strong and God centered woman who was strong in her faith. She was a prayer warrior for her family and always made sure to let them know she was thinking about them and praying for them. In her spare time; she enjoyed crocheting towels, crafts, cooking, and baking. She also liked to garden and tend to her flower beds. Kathy always put her family first and enjoyed taking pictures and making memories with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Benthien of Byron; children, Vicki Lake of Loves Park, Kevin (Suzanne) Cummins of Janesville, Wis., and Becky (Tony) Greenfield of Shannon, brothers; David (Vicki) Benthien of Stillman Valley and Tom (Laura) Benthien of Winnebago, grandchildren; Brittany and Brianna Lake, Jonathan, Jordon, Kylie, and Jake Cummins, Lindsey, Tyler, and Trevor Greenfield; great grand daughter, Danielle; and multiple nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her father and husband.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for the Kathy Cummins’ Scholarship Fund. Cards may be sent to The Cummins Family at P.O. Box 930 Byron, IL 61010. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic a private graveside service will be held with a celebration of Kathy’s well lived life at a later date.
