Margaret “Marge” Ruth Lantz

WALLED LAKE, Mich. – Margaret “Marge” Ruth Lantz, age 80, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021 at Commerce Comfort Care in Walled Lake, Mich. She was born June 3, 1941 in Jacksonville, Fla., the daughter of Braxton and Virginia “Louise” (Lively) Slappey.

She attended Lake Shore Elementary and High School until she transferred to Terry Parker High School, graduating in 1958. She attended Blackburn College in Carlinville, Ill., where she met and later married, Terry Dean Lantz of Monroe Center, on Oct.30, 1960. Marge moved with Terry to Maryland, Taiwan, Japan and England during his 35-year career as an Intelligence Officer in the Department of Defense. She was a research Librarian for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for many years, worked at the U.S. Embassy in Japan and at Taipei American School as an assistant Librarian. In England, she volunteered with British Pensioners.  Marge was a published author and avid reader who loved to travel, visiting all 50 U.S. states during her lifetime.  

Marge was predeceased by her parents, her husband Terry, her son Dean and her brother Braxton Slappey Jr. 

She is survived by her daughter Ginger Lantz-Pratt of Novi, Mich., grandchildren Erin Pratt, Andrea “Andi” Lantz, Amanda (Schupe) Taylor, two great grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in law and many loving nieces and nephews. 

A memorial service was held on Dec. 15 at 11 a.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Payne’s Point, Ill., with the Rev Thomas Moore officiating. A luncheon and visitation was at noon, also at Emmanuel Lutheran with private burial at the Monroe Center Cemetery in Monroe Center. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is established in Marge’s name and may be directed to the family.
