POLO – Marilyn J. Jones, 83, of Polo, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021 at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon. 

Marilyn was born Oct. 6, 1937 in Chicago, the daughter of Rev. Albert and Dorothy (Fry) Whitmore. On Aug. 16, 1958 in Liberty, Ill., she was united in marriage to her college sweetheart, Richard Jones, of Polo whom she met while attending Manchester College in North Manchester, Indiana.  In-between raising children and helping with farm activities, Marilyn still found time to play violin with various musical groups including being a member of the Clinton Symphony Orchestra in Iowa for 40 years. She was also an active member of the Polo Church of the Brethren serving on many committees, teaching Sunday school and serving in music ministry.  

Survivors include her husband Richard; daughter Patricia Crumley of Polo; son Darrel (Janette) of Kenosha, Wis.; sisters Anne (James) Hollinger of Florida and Karen (Milan) Mishler of Indiana; brothers Mack (Rebecca) Whitmore of Wisconsin and Daniel (Ellen) Whitmore of Virginia; grandchildren Mathew (Emma) Jones, JoAnne Dusenbury, Johnny Crumley, Jennifer (Dan) Fu, Justin Messer, Josh (Brandie) Messer; 6 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother Curtis Whitmore and son-in-law John B. Crumley.

A memorial service will be held at Polo Church of the Brethren, Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. with a memorial visitation from 10 a.m. to start of the service. A luncheon will follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family has set up a memorial in her name to the Clinton Symphony Orchestra, Box 116, Clinton, IA 52733-0116.
