BYRON — Michael J. Stahl, passed away in the early morning of Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at the Serenity House in Oregon Il., with family at his side.
Michael, known as "Papa", "Pop Pops" or "Papa Eeyore" was born April 12th 1948 in Freeport, Illinois. He went to St. Joseph's Grade School and graduated from Aquin Catholic High School both in Freeport Illinois. He then attended and graduated from Loras Catholic College in Dubuque Iowa with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology and a minor in Business Administration.
Michael eventually settled in Byron Illinois. He worked at and retired from the United States Postal Service, (Rockford Illinois location) after 24 years of service. After retirement he enjoyed long walks, crossword puzzles, sports, and most of all, his beloved grandchildren.
He loved College Basketball and especially all of his grandchildren's sporting and extra curricular events. Michael is and always will be a devout Catholic Christian. Michael loved the outdoors, hiking, a good joke or two, as well as reading, discussions about philosophy, religion and current events.
He was predeceased by his grandparents Galen and Ethel Slifer, his mother Dorothy (Slifer- Stahl) D'Agostin, his father John C. Stahl, and step father Arthur D'Agostin. He is survived by sister Karen (Stahl) Lytwyn, his children Gregory Michael Stahl (Teri Johnson), Rachael Stahl (Steve Kivikko), and Joseph Stahl, as well as his cherished grandchildren, T.J. Pitcock, Alyssa (Stahl) Maloney, Abbey Stahl, Anabelle Stahl, as well as great grandchildren Janie Jo, Harper, Nora and Makenna. May he rest in peace with all those who went before him. Private family memorial services will be held at a later date.
