DAVIS JUNCTION – Richard E. Hollandsworth, age 79, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday July 9, 2018. He was born to John J. and Bernadine J. (Baughman) Hollandsworth on Jan. 22, 1939 in Canton, IL.
He graduated from Canton High School class of 1957 and then joined the US Navy where he served on the USS Forrestal for 4 years and then the reserves for 2 years. Following his time in the service; he began working for AT&T in 1961 and worked with them for over 30 years before retirement. He married Dorothy Marvel on Dec. 21, 1960 at Fiatt Christian Church in Fiatt, IL. Richard was a member of the American Legion and served on the Stillman Valley Fall Festival Committee. Richard received the miracle of salvation by accepting Jesus Christ into his heart at Mt. Morris Evangelical Free Church. He was a current member of Maywood Evangelical Free Church in Rockford. He was active in AWANAS and served on the Missionary Advisory Board in Northern Illinois under the direction of David Jameson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy of Davis Junction; children, Bradley (Jackie) Hollandsworth and Rose (Stuart) Campbell both of Rockford; grandchildren, Brittany Hollandsworth of Chicago, Jennifer (Travis) Hall of Tennessee, Amelia (Jacob) Aldrich of Rockford, and Christopher Campbell of Rockford; sister, Janet (Richard) Tanquary of Carol Stream; and aunt, Florence Brown of Warren, Ind.; 2 nieces, 1 nephew, and many cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday July 13, 2018 at Maywood Evangelical Free Church in Rockford with Pastor Gary Kniseley officiating. Visitation was held on Thursday July 12, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. at the Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home in Stillman Valley. It was also be held at the church from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service on Friday. Burial at Stillman Valley Cemetery.
