Senior Center hosts international events

MOUNT MORRIS – Neema Ndosi from Tanzania Africa came to the Mount Morris Senior Center on Tuesday, March 6 to share information about her home country.

She made Pilau (a spiced rice and meat dish), Kachumbari (a salad made with cabbage, carrots, and a lemony dressing), Ugali with Spinach (a starch made with masa flour), and Mandazi (a Tanzanian donut). Through Ndosi’s presentation the seniors learned many things about the culture and country of Tanzania including some words in Swahili, one of the national languages of the country. Attendees were also able to see some artifacts she brought with her from Tanzania and ask her any questions they had.

The Mount Morris Senior Center is happy to provide opportunities like these to experience new things. It is hosting an international meal each month. These meals have included Jamaica, China and Tanzania so far.

The next international meal at the Mount Morris Senior Center (9 East Front St.) will be a Jewish meal on Monday, April 8 at 11:30 a.m. Call the Senior Center at 815-734-6335 if you would like to attend. All are welcome.
