Showcases donated to Forreston Library

FORRESTON – A recent donation to the Forreston Public Library by Lorraine Tudor will aid in bringing some local items into the public eye.

Two display showcases have been donated in memory of her husband Robert Tudor who passed away in 2015. He served as Public Relations Director at Morton East & West High school which included the responsibilities of heading the library, newspaper, and yearbook. He was a member of Forreston American Legion Post 308 and Tudor most recently was president of the Forreston American Legion Auxiliary.

Having a safe, secure location will allow the library to display some items from its archives, which include a copy of "The Early History of Northern Illinois" by Charles Knapp Carpenter of Baileyville, Ill. Published in 1948, this book is an account of the early history of the Crane's Grove area. Other early Ogle County histories will also be displayed, as well as many Sauerkraut Day items.

The second showcase will focus on a different subject each month. As June is recognized as Dairy Month, this month's display features the past dairy industries of Forreston.

If you have a subject you would like to see featured or have items available for future displays, please contact Julie Voss at the library. Visit the Facebook page "Forreston Public Library" for updates.
