Society holds annual picnic

Posted

On Sunday, Aug.15th the Davis Junction Museum and Historical Society had its annual picnic.

Our members and Davis Junction Alumni school students and friends attended.  It was a good time by all. Later in the day we picked the winners to our yearly raffles. John Miller of Rockford, Marilyn Belin of Genoa and Craig Cuplin of Freeport were all $100 gift certificate Eickmans Meat winners. The 50/50 raffle was $152 won by Toni Fasler of Mt. Morris. We would like to thank all the participants and look forward to seeing you next year.

The next program at the Museum will be on Sunday, Sept. 19 from 1-4 p.m. on the History of Sypes Corner, now known as Grubsteakers or (The Spot) at the corner of Hwy. 64 and 251. Dawn Hayenga Somers has quite the history and story to relay. Her roughly one hour presentation will begin about 1:30 p.m.

If you are still interested in an engraved brick for the walk in the front of the Museum we will be sending our order in mid-September. Please contact Kim Smeja at 815-994-0803.

The Museum is usually open on Tuesdays 10 a.m.-noon except the third Wednesday. Come on by and see our displays or discover names for your research. Look for free vegetables or books on our postal wagon in front of the Museum. Our monthly meeting is the third Wednesday every month at 6 p.m.
