Stevan C. Brantner

BYRON – Stevan C. Brantner, age 66, passed away on July 13, 2021 in Byron after a long illness. He was born on Sept. 22, 1954 in Rockford the son of Harold and Joan (Champion) Brantner.

He was a lifelong Byron resident and graduated from Byron High School class of 1972. He then attended and graduated with his Bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University. He married Bessie “Bess” Lee on June 17, 1989 at St, Bride’s Church in Oregon; she preceded him in death on May 21, 2020. Stevan worked for the Ogle County Sherriff’s Department in the Department of Corrections for nearly 20 years. He then worked at Header Die & Tool until retirement.

He attended church at the United Church of Byron. In his spare time; Steve loved to go deer hunting. He also was an avid reader especially scifi, comics, mystery, and history books. He was a fan of Chicago sports and recently was glued to the MeTv (Memorable Entertainment) channel. He also enjoyed wintering at his home in Missouri. But, most of all he loved spending time with his family and recently created a great bond with his great niece Marlee.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister Bonnie Baatz.

He is survived by his brother, Martin (Nadean) Brantner; step children, Brad (Dena) Teasdale and Jan (Jazz) Jaser; nieces and nephews, Christopher (Michelle) Baatz, Andrew (Amber) Baatz, Paul Brantner, Joel (Nichole) Brantner, and Allison (Spencer Shanks) Brantner; special cousin, Laurie Burnworth; and numerous great nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday July 19, 2021 at Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home in Byron with visitation held from noon-1 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at Byron Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name.
