STILLMAN VALLEY – On Tuesday, Sept. 14, eight Stillman Valley High School students from the dual credit Metal Fabrication class attended FABTECH 2021 at McCormick Place in Chicago.
FABTECH is North America’s largest metal forming, fabrication, welding and finishing event. With over 1000 vendors from across the world, the students were able view product displays, ask questions, and engage in some hands-on activities.
“I could go around, talk to the guys and learn what they do – the tooling, CNC, waterjets, plasma, welding, brazing,” said senior Ryan Gingotta.
“The best thing I learned was different ways to weld,” said Senior Jackson Craig. “There were so many displays to learn how to do more advanced welding projects.”
This trip was sponsored by SVHS’ College and Career Center.
"Our students were able to experience the magnitude of the metal fabrication industry in one location, ask professionals questions, see the latest technology and techniques, and engage in hands-on activities. This type of event helps our students determine their career choices," said Ed Liegl, Meridian CUSD #223's College and Career Coordinator.
