The Byron High School speech team took second out of five schools in the IHSA Freeport Regional on Saturday, Feb. 3.

On Jan. 18, 100 Women Who Care of Ogle County heard from six charitable organizations and voted to give $8,000 to Camp Cedar Illinois Inc., a faith-based camp for sexually abused girls aged 7-17.

Scholarships are available through the Rochelle Community Hospital Auxiliary to area students who are planning to pursue careers in the healthcare field. Five scholarships are available in 2024 which include the Ward A. and Mabel T. Miller Scholarship.

Are you looking for a fun, friend-filled, free club to learn about vegetables and gardening? Ogle County 4-H is excited to partner with Flagg-Rochelle Public Library and the Ogle County Master Gardeners to teach youth about growing vegetables. This new horticulture club, Rochelle Green Thumbs 4-H Club, is open to any youth in Ogle County, ages 8-18, by Sept. 1, 2023.

regon Avalanche's 2024 spring and summer fast-pitch softball registration is happening now! Open to all Oregon Community Unit School District girls ages 8-14, all skill levels welcome as well as athletes who are involved in other sports and activities.

Dr. A. Timothy Appenheimer recently retired after 40 years of work in the local community.

On Jan. 21, State Sen. Andrew Chesney (R-Freeport) stopped by the annual football banquet for the Byron High School football team to deliver honorary recognitions from the Senate to the athletes and coaches.  

The Byron High School speech team had several students earn top honors during the Taylor Swift Eras Tour-nament in Elgin on Saturday, Jan. 20.

Maison Brandt, senior, is Byron Choir’s first three-time All-State Honors musician.

Over 1,100 students received their degrees from Northern Illinois University in December.

Laura Watters, who is the director of Florissa and Autism Day Services for Kreider Services, spoke to the Oregon Lions on Jan. 11 during their meeting at the VFW in Oregon. She explained the services offered at the Kreider center.

Allissa Marschang was recently named the December Student of the Month at Polo Community High School and received a scholarship from the Polo Schools Foundation for her efforts.

Northern Illinois University recently announced its fall 2023 dean's list students.
