The Byron Museum of History will host an art exhibit of work by members of the Eagle’s Nest Art Group. The show will begin with an opening reception on Saturday, Feb. 10 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Several artists will be on hand to welcome visitors.

Stillman Bank held its 59th annual Holiday Giveaway drawing on Dec. 22. The bank had a total of six winners throughout its six locations. The winners received either a beef quarter or pork half.

A look back at some of the top Ogle County LIFE stories of the past year

On Wednesday, Dec. 20, Rochelle Community Hospital hosted its annual Holiday Drive Thru Dinner for anyone in need in the community. The dinner was free and received just under 200 orders, RCH Marketing, Foundation & Organizational Development Manager Michelle LaPage said.

Stillman Valley High School Principal Leslie Showers recently announced that 11 students from the SVHS graduating class of 2024 have been designated as Illinois State Scholars.

In the spirit of giving back this holiday season, Stillman Bank held a food drive to benefit area families this Christmas. 1,006 pounds of non-perishable food items were collected during the two-week event. Now in its 14th year, this annual food drive has collected over 14,000 pounds of food since its inception in 2008.

Karlea Frey was recently named the November Student of the Month at Polo Community High School and received a scholarship from the Polo Schools Foundation for her efforts.

Residents of Howard Johnston Plaza in Oregon made over 100 Christmas cards for others. Cards were painted, drawn, stamped, colored, collaged and even had embossed tinfoil added to them. Residents Leslie Ballard, Dawn Feary, Annette Cobel, Gina Fahls, Hope Huffstader, Kathe Wilson, Kristie Knaak, and aides Lisa and Melissa created one-of-a-kind cards. Receiving cards for Oregon Rehab and Living are Pam Morris and Aspen Goza. Kathy Groenhagen accepted the cards for Serenity Hospice patients in the area.

The Performing Arts Guild in collaboration with Aireloom Music Studio present the net proceeds from their recent performance of A Winter Medley to the Mt. Morris Fire Foundation. Many thanks to everyone who made a donation for the new fire house.

COUNTRY Financial Representative Jeanette Linker is proud to support the Polo Fire Protection District with a donation of $1,500. The funds will be used to support the purchase of equipment and other needs. Linker awarded the donation in a recent check presentation.

On Nov. 16, the Highland Community College Foundation recognized five Distinguished Alumni at the Freeport Club.

At its monthly meeting Dec. 18, the Rochelle Township High School District Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution in support of placing a county facilities sales tax on the March 19 election ballot. Shared Rochelle School Districts Superintendent Jason Harper said that there has been enough support from school boards county wide for the referendum to be placed on the ballot.

The Ogle Natural Areas Alliance (ONAA) is pleased to announce the successful acquisition of a 14-acre parcel along the picturesque Rock River, marking a significant milestone in the organization's ongoing commitment to environmental conservation and public land preservation.

At its monthly meeting Tuesday, the Ogle County Board voted to rescind its previous commercial solar and wind energy facilities siting and operating ordinances and to replace them with new ordinances to meet a recent state senate bill (SB 1699) that included trailer bill language for the renewable energy project siting bill.

HOPE of Ogle County is so very grateful for the community support they have received this holiday season. It received generous donations to assist survivors of domestic abuse and their children including turkey donations, gas cards, comfort and toiletry items for survivors staying in shelter, as well as folks who adopted families and individuals for the holidays.

Habitat for Humanity of Ogle County is excited to announce the kick-off of its First Annual Stud-a-thon to help raise funds for the next home the affiliate will be building in Ogle County in 2024.
