Oregon boys soccer team falls against Mendota

The Oregon High School varsity boys soccer team suffered a 9-0 loss against Mendota on Wednesday, Aug. 28. Deryk Withers recorded six saves for the Hawks (0-1) in the loss.

Forreston boys golf team defeats River Ridge/Scales Mound

The Forreston High School varsity boys golf team edged out River Ridge/Scales Mound 165-171 at Eagle Ridge on Wednesday, Aug. 28. Kaden Brown fired a 37 to earn medalist honors, while Darin Greenfield shot 42 and two players including Aspen McGlynn and Daylen Rahn recorded 43. Kendall Erdmann carded a 49 for the Cardinals on Wednesday.

Forreston and Polo volleyball teams clash

The Polo High School varsity volleyball team took down Forreston 25-13, 26-24 in a matchup of Ogle County schools on Wednesday, Aug. 28. Jaiden Schneiderman totaled 14 kills and two aces for the Cardinals, while Ennen Ferris compiled 14 assists, six digs and four kills.

Oregon cross country teams race at Rocket Run

The Oregon High School varsity cross country teams raced at the Rock Falls Rocket Run on Wednesday, Aug. 28. The girls finished sixth as a team, while the boys took 10th as a team. Christine Ramirez recorded a time of 23:28 and Jillian Hammer followed with a time of 23:44 to lead the girls on Wednesday. Daniel Dominguez ran a 17:13 for 11th place on the boys side, while Caleb Brooks clocked in with a time of 19:31. Melanie Carrillo finished second in the open fresh-soph race with a time of 28:59. 

Oregon golf teams win over Stillman Valley

The Oregon High School varsity boys golf team edged Stillman Valley 187-189 on Thursday, Aug. 29 at PrairieView Golf Course. Nole Campos earned runner-up honors with a 44, while Brogan Wilkinson fired a 47 and two players including Jackson Messenger and Tucker O’Brien finished with 48. The Hawks are now 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the Big Northern Conference.

The Oregon High School varsity girls golf team defeated Stillman Valley 201-233 behind a runner-up finish from Aniyah Sarver, who carded a 44. Sarah Eckardt followed with 48 and Hailey-Jane Becker added 49 for the Hawks, who are now 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the BNC.

Oregon volleyball team outlasts Dakota

The Oregon High School varsity volleyball team held off Dakota for a 25-18, 18-25, 26-24 win on Thursday, Aug. 29. Madi Shaffer compiled 28 digs with three assists, while Anna Stender totaled nine assists, nine digs, two kills and two aces. Grace Tremble finished with 12 digs and five kills for the Hawks, who saw Skylar Bishop add four kills, one block and one ace. The JV Hawks fell 21-25, 19-25 and the fresh-soph Hawks lost 5-25, 14-25 against Dakota on Thursday.

Polo football team blows out South Beloit

The Polo High School varsity football team cruised over South Beloit 44-8 on Friday, Aug. 30. Gus Mumford completed 3-of-9 passes for 59 yards and Noah Dewey caught two passes for 53 yards while rushing for 38 yards and two touchdowns. Gus Mumford ran for 140 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries, while JT Stephenson ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries. Gage Zeigler rushed for 23 yards and Kailin Gulbranson added 27 rushing yards.

Forreston football team shut out against Fulton

The Forreston High School varsity football team conceded a 28-0 shutout loss against Fulton on Friday, Aug. 30. Evan Boettner rushed for 65 yards and Coehen Kirchner rushed for 55 yards to lead the Cardinals on offense. Dane Setterstrom added 32 rushing yards in the loss.

Oregon football team falls against North Boone

The Oregon High School varsity football team fell 18-13 against North Boone on Friday, Aug. 30. Logan Weems rushed for 97 yards and one touchdown, while Cooper Johnson threw for 27 yards including a 12-yard touchdown pass to Josh Crandall and a 15-yard pass to Keaton Salsbury. 

Byron football team dominates Rock Falls

The Byron High School varsity football team dominated Rock Falls 56-7 on Friday, Aug. 30. Kaden McGough rushed for 88 yards and one touchdown, while Andrew Talbert rushed for 70 yards and one touchdown. Brayden Knoll rushed for 50 yards and one touchdown. J.J. Edmonson returned a punt for a 42-yard touchdown and Maddex Draheim recovered a fumble for a touchdown. Kye Aken, Bennet Hiveley and Isaac Alvarez each added touchdown runs.

Oregon boys soccer team beats Rockford Lutheran

The Oregon High School varsity boys soccer team won 4-1 over Rockford Lutheran on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Steven Guardado led the Hawks (2-2-2, 1-0 BNC) with three goals, while Cruz Hernandez added a goal and four players including Irvin Acosta, Aiden Hammer, Nick Ciesiel and Danny Chisamore notched assists. Deryk Withers finished with four saves.

The Oregon High School varsity volleyball team fell 8-25, 23-25 against Rochelle on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Madi Shaffer finished with 11 digs and an ace, while Grace Tremble had eight digs and two kills. Anna Stender totaled five digs and three assists. The JV Hawks lost 19-25, 20-25 and the fresh-soph Hawks fell 25-20, 18-25, 5-15 against Rochelle on Tuesday evening.

Oregon boys golf team wins over Rock Falls

The Oregon High School varsity boys golf team scored a 185-191 win over Rock Falls on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Nole Campos fired a 38 for medalist honors and Brogan Wilkinson tied for runner-up honors with a 43. Matthew Pham (51), Coen Schafer (52) and Lexton Pham (53) each had personal-best scores for the JV team.

Forreston boys golf team sweeps DuPec-Polo meet

The Forreston High School varsity boys golf team took down both DuPec and Polo at Lynx Golf Course on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Kaden Brown earned medalist honors with a 37, while Daylen Rahn was the runner-up finisher with a 38. Kendall Erdmann fired a 41 and Aspen McGlynn followed with a 43. Darin Greenfield and Conrad Krigbaum notched scores of 44 and 46. Forreston finished with 159, while DuPec had 198 and Polo carded 203.

The Forreston High School varsity volleyball team edged Byron for a 25-17, 25-19 win in a matchup of Ogle County schools. Jaiden Schneiderman had 13 kills and three aces, while Ennen Ferris collected 10 assists, four blocks and two kills. Aubrey Sanders totaled 11 digs, five assists and one ace, while Ayla Kiper had nine digs and two aces.
