OREGON — The Oregon Junior Hawk cross country team is enjoying a strong start to the 2024 season. The team raced in its first meet of the season at Genoa-Kingston on Aug. 29, where the girls finished second behind a stellar individual outing from Anya Anaya, who placed second in 13:55 to set a new course record for the Oregon girls at the Genoa-Kingston race course.

Nicanor Anaya was the top boy for the Junior Hawks in the season-opening meet, finishing seventh with a time of 14:19. The team continued its season at the Oregon Open, which was held at Oregon Park West in early September. The girls finished fourth out of 20 teams at the Junior High level, with Kollins Anaya leading the way with an Oregon girls home course record time of 10:42. Anya Anaya also medaled with a top-10 finish, taking sixth with a time of 10:48.

Oregon’s boys placed 13th at the Oregon Open. The Junior Hawks were led by Nicanor Anaya, who finished 18th with a time of 10:47 and was the fastest fifth-grader in the meet. Last week, Oregon raced in Winnebago on Tuesday and Sterling on Thursday. The girls finished second at Winnebago and sixth at Sterling, while the boys placed seventh in Winnebago and 10th at Sterling. Kollins Anaya tied Oregon’s Winnebago course record with a time of 7:39. Kollins and Anya Anaya medaled in third and fourth at Sterling and beat Oregon’s Sterling course record.
