Ellsworth 'Shorty' Schumacher

STILLMAN VALLEY – Ellsworth “Shorty” Schumacher, 93, of Stillman Valley, passed away Aug. 17, 2019 at Generations at Neighbors in Byron. Shorty was the youngest of 14 children born on Jan. 5, 1926 to Fred and Emma (Poliska) Schumacher. 

He married Esther Cameron on Oct. 16, 1948, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lindenwood.  He was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lindenwood. He spent much of his life farming with his wife, raising grain and hogs. He worked in maintenance at Holcomb State Bank for 20 years. He enjoyed mowing lawn, playing cars, dancing, and having a good time with his family and friends. 

He is survived by his daughter, Brenda (Mike) Adams of Stillman Valley; grandchildren Julie (Justin) Miller of McClave, Colo., and Jamie (Brooke) Adams of Stillman Valley; great grandchildren Tyanne, Jason, Eliana, Kaitlyn and Nolan; many nieces and nephews and special families Diana and Al Klapp and Della and John Ehmen. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Esther, son Steven Schumacher, six brothers; Alfred, Clarance, Ralph, Ross, Lester and Harold Schumacher, seven sisters; Alvie Peterson, Freda Brown, Rose Terviel, Ella Stacionis, Eva Lupkes, Esther Swanson and Lucille Bain, and special friend, Bernice Nass. 

The family would like to thank the staff at Generations at Neighbors for their care for Shorty.

Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 23 from 4-7 p.m., at the Farrell-Holland- Gale Funeral Home 136 W. Roosevelt Road in Stillman Valley. Funeral service was Saturday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lindenwood. Burial in Big Mound Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Immanuel Lutheran Church.
