OREGON – Geraldine Y. "Jerrie" Mathews, 85, lifelong Oregon resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford. Born Feb. 14, 1933 in Rockvale Township, Ogle County, the daughter of John V. and Catherine (Gocken) Donaldson.
Married to Richard L. Mathews July 8, 1955 in German Valley; he died July 5, 1983. She was previously employed at Oregon Sewing Factory an at E.D. Etnyre Company. Jerrie was a member of Chana United Methodist Church and loved sewing and crafting.
Survived by her son, Craig Mathews of Rockford; grandchildren, Patrick MacArthur and Catie Ryan; son-in-law, Charlie MacArthur; brother, Pat Donaldson of Rockford; sisters, Sheila Lemke of Byron and Sharon Meline of Stevens Point, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.
Also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sheryl MacArthur; son, Gregory Mathews; and brothers, Richard, Robert and John Donaldson.
In keeping with Jerrie's wishes, burial in Stillman Valley Cemetery will be private with no services. A celebration of Jerrie's life will be held at a later date. Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon assisted the family with arrangements.
