Ginger Lou Willing

BYRON – Willing, Ginger Lou (Richardson), age 73 of Byron, passed away from complications of diabetes on June 1, 2020. Ginger was born to Donald and Elmina (Olson) Richardson in Elgin, on March 21, 1947.

Ginger spent her childhood farming with her family. She was a member of 4-H.  In 1956, Ginger put her faith in Jesus Christ. She graduated from St. Charles High School in 1965.  Shortly thereafter, Ginger married the love of her life, Keith William Willing, Sr. on June 26, 1965.  Ginger held many jobs throughout her life. She especially enjoyed her time at the Byron Flower Shop and the Bright Beginnings Pre-K in Byron. Later in life, Ginger was part of the Stephensen County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Ginger never met a stranger. She loved meeting new people.  She was an avid reader and a crafter.

Ginger is survived by her husband, Keith; her children – Cindi (Gary) Mielke of Ridott, Paula Pierce of Freeport, Keith (Michele) Willing, Jr. of Stillman Valley, and Becky (Matt) Garcia of Senoia, Ga. Ginger was adopted mom of Toni (Craig) Lund of Oregon. Ginger enjoyed her many grandchildren – Jake (Abby) Mielke, Kayla (Shawn) Hoefle, Ashlynn (Austin) Tornow, Tom Pierce, Branden (Kaylie) Pierce, Garrett Pierce, Zachary, Elijah, Henry, and Emma Kate Garcia, Jacque (Brandon) Schmidt, and Brett (Danielle) Alexander. Ginger was blessed with ten great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Gail (Ed) Bove of Homewood, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Ginger is preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Elmina Richardson, and her brother Glen Richardson; her in-laws, Paul and Frieda (Becker) Willing.

Cremation rights have been accorded. The family is planning to celebrate Ginger’s life in the fall.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in honor of Ginger to Serenity Hospice, 1658 S. Illinois Route 2, Oregon, IL 61061.
